Minafon’s Midweek Mood Move

Minafon’s Midweek Mood Move 8.55am – 9.25am

Rationale – Health and Wellbeing is important for all pupils and staff. We know that there are mornings and weeks which can be overwhelming for many children and adults. Therefore, we want to try something different…

Mission – On a Wednesday morning, all children will need to go to their usual classroom to be registered. This will need to be completed by 9am. All pupils from Year 1 – 6 will then have the opportunity to engage in a wellbeing activity of their choosing for that half hour. It could be one of the following tasks: mindfulness exercises, walk and talk on the playground, journaling or Cosmic Yoga. Dosbarth Y Nyth will focus on their own wellbeing tasks at this time.

During these activities, pupils will have the chance to check in with an adult of their choice. Our ELSA, Mrs Roberts, will also be on hand to check in with individuals whom she is working with. Mr. Bennett will also be available to make sure everyone is having a good start to their new week and to support as needed.

Walk and Talk

During this activity, pupils can choose to explore the school grounds and to walk with a friend or a trusted adult to talk about a topic of their interest. This will take place on the school playground and the school field (weather permitting). This is a calm activity for walking and talking. This is not to be confused as an extra playtime or an opportunity to run around.

Mindfulness

During this activity, pupils can develop their understanding of mindfulness through activities such as breathing strategies and other mindfulness techniques.

This will take the form of different exercises and games guided by Mrs Edwards and digital resources.

Journaling

During this activity, pupils have the opportunity to colour, sketch or journal. Sometimes, people like to channel feelings and emotions through art. Some find art or free writing opportunities calming.

Yoga

During this activity, pupils can engage in a calm yoga task. This connects physical movement with breathing focus. This is a great activity to develop listening skills. The activity will be led by Miss Foxley and Miss Sat who will use guided resources.

Goal – Our new curriculum gives us the flexibility to create learning experiences that meet the needs of our pupils. We think starting the week in a calm and reflective way, focusing on wellbeing, will help start the week the
