Why do we have to use policies?
Policies are important because they help us to establish rules and procedures and create standards of quality for learning and safety, as well as expectations and accountability.
Without these, schools would lack the structure and function necessary to provide for the educational needs of pupils.
How often are policies reviewed?
Policies are reviewed annually, biannually or on a three-year cycle. The headteacher ensures that policies are in place with the support of the Governing Body. Any policy that the headteacher feels is needed is shared with all members of staff for their approval. The policy is then taken to the Governing Body subcommittees and then ratified at a full Governing Body meeting. At this point, they are formerly adopted and become the policy for the school.
Some policies are written by the school, whilst others are suggested and created by Conwy Local Authority. Policies are considered by unions prior to final recommendation for adoption.
